Have The Problems of Wearing Inappropriate Dress Job Interview

When the movie Erin Brockovich came out it sparked a controversy. The title character, played by Julia Roberts, was based on a real person. Brockovich, a single mother who worked at a law firm, discovered some real estate files that included medical records. Curious about this, she began to investigate and discovered 600 families living near the Pacific Gas & Electric plant who all suffered from a mysterious illness. She went on to lead a class action suit against the company.

So what’s the controversy and how does it relate to career planning? It’s not the fact that Brockovich fought the “big guys.” It’s the way Julia Roberts, as Erin Brockovich, dresses, talks, and acts. And don’t think the actress dressed that way to give spice to the movie either.

Apparently Roberts portrayal of Brockovich was accurate. Here’s what About.com’s Guide to Hollywood Movies/Reviews J. Sperling Reich had to say:
“Brockovich is hardly a model employee, she wears racy clothing, uses “colorful language”, and is quite open about her opinions, good and bad, of everything around her. Her co-workers eye her with dislike and mistrust.”
